FridayLive!
“We can’t teach THAT online!”
Unless…
Presenters: Steve Gilbert and others
Description
Demo/discuss free video conference tool (Zoom) and free online shared whiteboards
“Oh, if you can do that, then maybe I really can teach…. online.” You’re invited to share surprising online success stories - even very modest success stories - to which colleagues might respond that way. We’ll discuss and demonstrate free video conference tool (Zoom) and free online shared whiteboards (e.g., RealTimeBoard, Padlet, and the whiteboard available within Adobe Connect) - because participants in previous related FridayLive! discussions asked how to include some challenging topics, activities in online courses. Of course, you’re invited to suggest similar or better alternatives!
We’ll use these adaptations of the TLT Group’s Fundamental Questions (see also tlt.gs/FQintro) 1. What are one or two important things you expect to gain from adapting your course for online learning? 2. What are one or two important things you expect to lose from adapting your course for online learning? 3. If someone could show you how NOT to lose one of those important things, which one would reassure you most that it won’t be a waste of time to adapt your course?
Finally, we’ll outline an emerging TLT Group initiative to develop some online teaching modules for widely-recognized instructional bottlenecks in introductory undergraduate courses or prerequisites; e.g., the Distributive Property in algebra.
NOTE: As usual, login instructions for the session will be sent in the Registration Confirmation Email. Please check your Junk folder as sometimes these emails get trapped there. We will also send an additional login reminder a few hours prior to the start of the event. Meanwhile, since the announcement of this event was delayed, you can login to FridayLive! on October 9 starting at 1:30 pm ET via http://connectpro86502729.adobeconnect.com/frlv2015/
