Using Web 2.0 technology simply to use Web 2.0 technology is inefficient and ineffective; to maximize the benefits available via Web 2.0 applications, technology selection should be driven by specific pedagogical needs. But the challenge in this task lies in the vast number of available instructional technologies; it is difficult to maintain a working familiarity with the ever-growing number of options to identify the most appropriate technology to meet individualized instructional needs and contexts. Pedagogy First ( is an interactive, online decision tree designed to help faculty select the right Web 2.0 tool for their particular pedagogical needs, resources, experience and situation. Built from research on over 600 faculty members, instructional designers and faculty development specialists, Pedagogy First identifies pedagogical and practical concerns driving technology integration and explores specific Web 2.0 technologies in relation to these factors. In this session, we will overview the research conducted to develop the decision-tree, explore the functionality and potential of this tool, and seek feedback to enhance the value of Pedagogy First.
