FridayLive!  Learn (via discussion & live demos) how to use free version of WordPress to design, develop, publish, and share a web page with features that could support some online and hybrid courses.  (And TLT Group activities: e.g., post “3 takeaways” from each FridayLive! session).

We’ll try to develop (and test with participants) an online quiz/survey DURING THIS SESSION to demonstrate some desirable features of WP quiz/survey options. More details in section below about these features:

  1. Interactivity, Sharing, and Inclusivity (polls, voting ..)
  2. Security and Exclusivity (anonymity, privacy, usage)
  3. Social Media Usage
  4. Convenience (comfort, compatibility, accessibility, usability; updates/subscription options)
  5. Attractiveness
  6. Find and Adapt (WP-compatible resources)

Steve Gilbert will be the “designated learner”.

  1. INCREASE INTERACTIVITY, SHARING, INCLUSIVITY, ACCESSIBILITY Support interactions before, during, after online sessions. Live polls, surveys, voting, ranking; visibility of cumulative results. Cannot exclude any recognizable "group" - even if that group is defined coincidentally by most of its members using some obscure technology. Include features recommended to support access by diverse users (ethnically, educationally, physically, ...) . Favor free options and limits (e.g., for cloud file storage; streaming).
  2. SECURITY and EXCLUSIVITY Security must be obviously adequate/appropriate for the activities and uses. Options for levels of privacy, anonymity, usage. Access to some/all resources can be restricted to a well-defined group.
  3. SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE Take advantage of publication/dissemination/communication features of Facebook, Twitter, other relevant social media. Especially those with automatic options or requiring minimal effort, time.
  4. CONVENIENCE Anyone who uses or contributes something can do so with COMFORT (MINIMAL fuss about creating and subsequent usage of any new accounts, passwords, etc.); COMPATIBILITY with all devices, operating systems, etc. (EXCEPT those that are used only rarely).
  5. ATTRACTIVENESS Appearance is appealing both to experienced Internet users and newbies; only most common abbreviations/icons/positioning, ...used without explicit explanation.
  6. FIND, ADAPT Find, review, ADAPT quizzes and other online resources that are highly compatible with WordPress (esp. those that are intended for higher education).
